Oni Hagi Sakazuki (sake cup)
An expertly thrown sake cup made in Yamaguchi prefecture in Western Japan. This particular Hagi cup is made in the more unusual blue color. The exposed bare clay at the base shows the high quality of the clay. This vintage Hagi cup has a textured surface that feels good when you hold and drink from it. Visually the rough surface is reminiscent of sea creatures such as Uni and Sea Cucumber, which historically has served as inspiration for Japanese, Korean and Chinese ceramic artist through the ages.
The cup is accompanied by its original, Cedar box (Kiribako), for safe storage, signed by the potter
